Climate Sensitivity of the Arid Scrublands on the Tibetan Plateau Mediated by Plant Nutrient Traits and Soil Nutrient Availability

چکیده

Climate models predict the further intensification of global warming in future. Drylands, as one most fragile ecosystems, are vulnerable to changes temperature, precipitation, and drought extremes. However, it is still unclear how plant traits interact with soil properties regulate drylands’ responses seasonal interannual climate change. The vegetation sensitivity index (VSI) desert scrubs Qaidam Basin (NE Tibetan Plateau) was assessed by summarizing relative contributions temperature (SGST), precipitation (SGSP), (temperature dryness index, STVDI) dynamics normalized difference (NDVI) during growing months yearly from 2000 2015. Nutrient contents, including carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium topsoils leaves plants, were measured for seven types scrub communities at 22 sites summer 2016. Multiple linear structural equation used reveal leaf nutrient regimes affect scrubs’ variability. results showed that total nitrogen (STN) carbon content (LC), respectively, explained 25.9% 17.0% VSI variance across different communities. Structural modeling (SEM) revealed STN (STK) mediated scrub’s indirectly via SGST (with standardized path strength ?0.35 +0.32, respectively) while LC SGSP ?0.31 ?0.19, respectively). Neither nor leave contents alone could explain sites, except indirect influences STK STVDI (?0.18 0.16, Overall, this study disentangled importance availability mediating climatic Plateau. Integrating functional together recommended better understand mechanisms behind dryland under

Vascular architecture and patchy nutrient availability generate within-plant heterogeneity in plant traits important to herbivores.

Within-plant heterogeneity in growth, morphology, and chemistry is ubiquitous, and is commonly attributed to differences in tissue age, light availability, or previous damage by herbivores. Although these factors are important, we argue that plant vascular architecture is an underappreciated determinant of heterogeneity. Vascular architecture can restrict the transport of resources (nutrients, ...

on translation of phatic communion and socio-cultural relationships between the characters of the novels

phatic communion is a cultural concept which differs across cultures. according to hofstede (2001), the u.s. tends to have individualistic culture; however, asian countries tend to have collectivistic cultures. these cultures view phatic communion differently. in individualistic cultures like u.s., phatic communion reflects speakers’ socio-cultural relationships in conversations. to see whether...

Soil-nutrient availability affected by different biomass-ash applications

This study, through an incubation experiment, evaluates the effect that different biomass ashes exert on the extractability of nutrients and some chemical parameters and dehydrogenase activity of a slightly acid soil. Three types of as were selected: two new ashes generated by the dry combustion of olive cake or by gasification of greenhouse vegetable wastes, and a third produced by wood combus...

Leaf nitrogen and phosphorus of temperate desert plants in response to climate and soil nutrient availability

In desert ecosystems, plant growth and nutrient uptake are restricted by availability of soil nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P). The effects of both climate and soil nutrient conditions on N and P concentrations among desert plant life forms (annual, perennial and shrub) remain unclear. We assessed leaf N and P levels of 54 desert plants and measured the corresponding soil N and P in shallow (0-1...
